Awareness events for Lyme Disease, Highlights, Writing

A truely incredible moment at the Scottish Parliment!

I was really delighted to be invited to the Scottish Parliment by Lyme disease UK, a non-profit organisation, who do brilliant work to help raise awareness for Lyme disease. It was such an adventure being well enough to travel to Edinburgh and to get to see the parliament at work. I never anticipated that my novel would help up before the Scottish Parliament MSP Maree Todd!

Lyme disease

Ticks can carry a nasty infection called Lyme disease. If it is not diagnosed or treated early it can develop into a debilitating and devastating chronic illness. I urge everyone to familiarize themselves with the ways to avoid tick bites – by wearing long-sleeved and light-coloured clothing, avoiding long grass, wearing insect repellent, ensuring that ticks are removed promptly, and treating dogs so that they do not get ticks. If you have had a tick bite and a bulls-eye rash appears, or you start feeling flu-like symptoms, you should go and see your GP. Finding Joy is due to be released 31st of May 2017

I’m delighted to say that debut novel ‘Finding Joy’ is due to be released 31st of May 2017.

Finding Joy by Morven MacCallum

More details to come shortly, please see an excerpt below:

I would like to introduce myself, I feel it’s only fair. Only I know you so well now, you might get a scare. I know you know I’m in there, though I crept with greatest stealth: I am the hidden monster buried within yourself.”

Joyce is only sixteen when she’s torn from the life she loves. Two-years pass, but Joyce, her family, and her best friend Logan, are no closer to learning what’s causing her dizzying array of symptoms. As Joyce tries to come to terms with her increasing limitations those around her struggle to understand what she is going through. Baffled and unsure, the Doctors eventually diagnose Joyce with ME and CFS. But when Joyce and her family refuse to accept this diagnosis, her mental stability is called into question. Desperate for the truth and scared for Joyce’s life, their only hope lies in a private hospital where she is diagnosed with Lyme disease. Can Joyce survive a treatment as brutal as her illness? Can she find her way in a world she no longer recognises?

Reviews

‘Finding Joy’ is compelling and beautifully written, providing a telling insight into what it is like to live with Lyme disease which is a highly misunderstood illness.”Natasha Metcalf, Lyme Disease UK
